8 May 2012

I suppose this is why I went to college...Well, at least it is the reason my parents thought I went to college. In some respect, hundreds of people have been pouring into my life with the goal of getting me to this moment. They want me to earn enough money so that I actually have to pay taxes without getting it all back in a refund. On May 8th of 2012 I will go to Palmyra High School and interview for my first "real job." (I thought my job as a server in The Grand Teton National Park last…See More

The Acadmic Learning Center

I recently had an epiphany. The most influential day in my academic career was the day I became a tutor.Everyone learns a little different. It just so happens that I learn the best when I am talking. This is often a sad fact for my professors and classmates, but it is true. A person once told me that my brain and mouth were hard-wired together. I don't really start thinking until I start talking. Luckily I quickly found a place at Albright where this characteristic of mine could flourish. I…See More

Student Teaching

This semester looks significantly different than the rest of my semesters at Albright. Bed time is at 10 PM instead of 1 AM. My alarm goes off at 6 AM instead of 8 AM or...whenever I wanted. I pack a lunch, go to work, and work all day until my hunger makes me come home around 5. This is in contrast to eating lunch and dinner in a cafeteria, going to a class every couple hours, and tutroing to fill some free time and earn some cash. I see only the friends that I make time for instead of running…See More

Hospitality

Throwing parties is something I am growing to love. I don't get too stressed out about the whole ordeal, I just love getting people together and seeing what happens. This weekend I am hosting an annual Christmas tree burning party at my parents house in Boyertown. Every year people are looking to get rid of their Christmas tree and often don't have a good solution for what to do with it. Well, I know what to do with a pile of dead wood...burn it!  A lot of my friends from college will make the…See More

"I am torn. I lived in Mohn Hall for both my freshman and sophomore years. I really enjoyed living in Mohn. A large group of us freshman really created a great bond in Mohn that has lasted all four years. Mohn is generally more quite, has central…"

Ski Trip

I just returned from the annual Albright Ski Club trip to Vermont. A group of 20 of us, along with Alison Burke and her husnand, skied two days in Stowe, VT on Mount Mansfield. Alison is the director of our Schumo Center for Fitness and Wellbeing. We took two of the college vans on the eight hour road trip and had an absolute blast. We skied practically from sunup to sundown, then came back to make dinner, play cards, shoot pool, and hang out around the fire. The second night we even went for a…See More

Interim

At Albright there is a unique three week period after the new year that we call "Interim". Interim is called January Term at other schools. During Interim students at Albright can choose to take a threee week intensive class. Classes typically run for three to four hours a day Mon-Fri. During the classes, students really get a chance to focus on one thing with everything they have. In my freshman year, a senior at the time told me that Interim is when students really make albright theirs. This…See More

Christmas Break

Let me just tell you that after you have been through a finals week at college, Christmas Break is absolutely the best thing that could ever happen to you. Some folks are ready to immediately go spend some quality time with the couch, but I typically need a little transition time in the form of adventure first. To that end, my friend Chi and I spent the weekend in Washington DC. We stayed with some Albright Alumni that are now working in the DC area and spent two days walking around the city…See More

Christmas With The Friedlund Family

I am not sure what will come of my life. I only know one thing. I will always take in folks that need a place to stay. Thus, Christmas at the Friedlund's has and always will be shared with people who cannot, for one reason or another, be with their families at Christmas. When I was little I remember having a latino lady from our community stay with us for about 3 months. I can remember many years that we shared Christmas with a missionary, poor family from the neighborhood, or foreign exchange…See More

Formal

I am not really a formal guy. I road my bicycle twenty miles each way to my house last weekend in 30 degree and windy weather with non-matching gloves on. I like playing outside, I don't shave often enough, I would typically prefer to be hiking, and not showering doesn't bother me. Most nights I eat dinner out of the pot I cooked it in. I am not a formal guy.Tonight, however, I am going to a formal. One of the sororities on campus is having their semesterly formal dance tonight and a sorority…See More
