Day 07

Today I was assigned to a few tasks. I started my day by relocating the tags on the merchandise and attaching it to the back collar label. After I went around the store and was sure that all items were tagged the right way, I moved on to my next task. I relabeled all shoes that were; missing labels, labeled wrong, or were not in a presentable manner. I made sure that all shoes were out and had the correct style number, price and name. Checking for these small details makes locating and selling a shoe a faster process.

. I then had to move sale merchandise into the GOH stock room, (Garments on Hangers). I re-arranged the stock room so the sale merchandise was on one side and the full price on another. Any new items that came in, I put away in the according stock room. In my internship I also get to do a lot of stock work, which is part of visual merchandising. Without the work done in the back, it will make the work on the floor harder to pull together

Day 08

Auditing and being a fit model were my tasks were today. I audited the merchandise on the floor and in the stock room. All merchandise that was marked down the previous day had to be checked for correct prices. Any items incorrectly marked had to be adjusted to the right price.

My next task was to be available to the associate and managers to try the Cozy and scarf on me. The Cozy is one of the best sellers. It is a very soft cardigan-like garment. It converts to many different pieces. It can be used as a cardigan, dress, top, scarf, etc. There are booklets to help the customers generate the styles showed in the store. The scarf does the same thing. At the end of the various sessions, I was tested to make as many styles that they showed me and create my own style. They wanted to test my memory and creativity. Creativity and on the spot thinking is very important for this job. It was nice to be able to have fun and work at the same time.

Day 09

Today I was allowed to do a visual merchandising project. I was very excited that they gave me the opportunity to do it. Although it was small it just made my day. They let me do both watch displays, which has men’s and women’s watches. I got to add any merchandise that was missing, make new sections of the watches (ex. Ceramics together), so they would sell better. After I was done with the display I had to refill the floor with any missing merchandise. After that I was given the task of re-ticketing the purses. With this I had to take the tags from the outside of the bag and re-attach them to the inside of the bag. My last task of the day was to organize the women’s knit stock room. I made sure all the tags were facing out of the box, folded neatly, and the same merchandise was together. Although we get lots of small projects to do throughout the day the projects like getting assigned visual rearrangements, make it all worth it.
