"to make your home out on the range
Mount your horse and come along.
Cause you can't get a ride if you can't hold on.
Singin': Yippie ki yi yay, yippie ki yi what?
Like the cowboys sing: Yippie ki yi yay.
Get along little doggie 'til the break of day.
Better watch out for these man-eating jackrabbits and that killer cacti
Hey Dude!"
So this song stems from one of the greatest shows of my childhood and I really hope I am not dating myself, but for those of you who have missed out, I feel sorry for you. The show that im stealing the theme song from is "Hey Dude" an old school Nickelodeon show.
But anyway let me explain why this show is describing my life at the moment... After graduating in May I took a couple months off, traveled to Spain, sat around my pool, and went to the beach. Rough life, I know, but well deserved. However, relaxing takes a toll on the body so I was went out to try and find a job/internship. I threw a lot of things out, and got a few bites here and there, and really got to work on my interviewing skills. Then I got an internship! I got offered to work at a Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release place in TEXAS! So I took the offer because it was a six-month long internship and they provided housing and a stipend, and the experience that I am going to get out of this job is going to be incredible!
Fast forward til August 27, my mom and I jumped on a plane and headed out to San Antonio, Texas. We did some visiting and explored the city of San Antonio, which was incredible! They have an amazing riverwalk, which is lined with restaurants galore...really amazing TexMex and Italian and anything you could imagine. We also went to the San Antonio Zoo that was one of the most incredible zoos I have visited! My mom and I just went around until Saturday where I moved into my trailer to begin my internship...
This is where the theme song explains my life...the drive from San Antonio to my new home for the next six-months was only about an hour, and with each passing mile, civilization became more and more sparse, and people and houses began to be replaced by trees and hills. Finally I get to my new home, and it is setup completely out of "Hey Dude" except there are more animals and less people. This is a change compared to the Northeast...once I get pictures up everyone will be able to understand where I am coming from.
Today was my first day of the internship and we just did some orientation and everything, we learned the lay of the land and got to see all the resident animals. Wolf Hybrids, African Lions, all sorts of primates, lemurs, bears, and bobcats. This was awesome and tomorrow we get orientation of the clinic where all injured wildlife come in to get rehabilitated and release.
Update to come later!
