In my last blog I mentioned a quote that I vowed to live my summer by, and here I am, a little over a month from that promise to myself and I am proud to admit I’m doing a great job of carrying it out…Here are a few of my brags on a summer not wasted… I took a solo bus trip to New York City, hailed my own cab to the Upper East Side where my friends awaited me… I kayaked in the Hudson River, have danced until 4am in a club in New York City, including some swing dancing which I have never done before but enjoyed very, very much. : ) I explored the city by myself that next day, met up with my best friends to enjoy the Pride Parade and ate Thai food for the first time. I decided one sunny Sunday afternoon to take the 1 ½ hour trip to Cayuga Lake with my mom where we took some fabulous pictures and had some truly inspiring conversation while soaking our feet in the beautiful water. I learned to tap out when things get to be too much, take more music-filled rides, had my heart kind of broken a couple of times and survived, and I got attacked by what I am pretty sure was a large bat one night while lying on a blanket overlooking my high school baseball field at around 11pm with a couple of my favorite people, which led to more belly laughing than I have done in a while. I never envisioned myself wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat to a birthday party for my uncle, am actually starting to appreciate some country music, admittedly enjoyed listening to Alabama while riding shotgun in a 68 Chevelle SS and I’m going to learn to ride a horse. I found that nothing beats a hot summer day, a great baseball game, and being brave enough to take a chance, open your heart and keep believing in the dream. I believe it’s all about throwing away the rule books, people. Get out of your head what you think it’s supposed to be like and just throw open your arms, spin around in the wind and let it all in, with no expectations, you will never be disappointed.
